Chebera Churchura National Park

Chebera Churchura is Ethiopia’s best-preserved national park located within the western side of the central Omo Gibe basin, in between Dawro zone and Konta Special Woreda of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regional State of Ethiopia

Chebera Churchura provides refuge to 37 species of larger mammals. Besides Elephants, the park has populations of Buffalo, Greater Kudu, Defassa Waterbuck, Lion, Leopard, Serval Cats, Hippopotamus and Warthog. It also has 140 species of birds of which 5 are endemic to Ethiopia.

The national park covers a total area of 11,900 ha with elevations ranging from 500-2000 m asl. It can easily be accessed either by the Addis-Jimma-Ameya road (around 110 km south of Jimma) or via Shashemene and Sodo.
